UPES Dehradun is the abbreviation for the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun. The UPES Act of 2003 allowed the establishment of the institution. According to the NIRF 2022 rankings, UPES has been ranked 97 in the overall category. Its vision is to establish itself as a global leader in fostering the growth of people with the necessary skills to support national development. The goals of UPES are to generate professionals that are industry-focused and have an international perspective, build successful outcome-based educational systems to continuously enhance teaching, learning, and research, and establish a global knowledge ecosystem through training, consulting, and research & development.

UPES was ranked 101 in 2021 and 97 in 2022 by NIRF. In 2023, it received 1st rank under the Private University category, 3rd under the Private University in India, and 9th under the University overall category by QS Asia University Rankings.
The institution provides students with four to five-year BE/BTech, three to four-year BSc, BBA, BCom, BA, three-year LLB, and three-year BCA programmes at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, two-year MCA, MA, and other programmes are provided and Four specializations for the MBA are available. It also provides online courses to students through CCE. The Distance Education Council has given its approval to online courses.

UPES, Dehradun has received accreditation from NBA, IACBE, A Grade by NAAC and approval from UGC, BCI, and PCI. The university is recognized as a scientific and research institution by the Ministry of Science and Technology, DISR, and the Government of India. It also has membership with the Association of Indian Universities, the World Design Organisation, the International Association of Universities, CII, and PhD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Academic, athletic, alumni, and other scholarships are available to meritorious students through UPES Dehradun. Under all of the courses, scholarships are available. UPES B.Tech Scholarships are awarded based on both merit and admission. Scholarships for UPES M.Tech students are given based on GATE results. The UPES MBA Scholarship is awarded on the basis of CAT score.
Admissions to all programmes at UPES Dehradun are either based on merit or entrance exams. For admission to the MBA programme, UPES Dehradun administers the UPESMET entrance tests. Scores of several other entrance exams are also accepted for different courses.
Airbus, Boeing, Deloitte USI, Ernst & Young, KPMG, and other large employers were among the top recruiters.
The 44-acre UPES Bidholi and UPES Kandoli campuses are located in Dehradun. Labs, dormitories, and spaces for extracurricular activities are available at UPES. The UPES Library can accommodate 400 students at a time. The university also boasts fantastically decorated food courts where it serves students from both campuses wholesome meals, snacks, and drinks. A multifunctional playground for football, hockey, cricket, and other sports is also available at the campus. Boys and girls have access to several hostel amenities through UPES. At the campuses in Bidholi and Kandoli, there are more than 2000 students living in the hostels.
